Its a question you are asked often when training hard or when its obscenely hot outside. Not many people know the symptoms of Dehydration and will spend much of their day in a dehydrated state. Everything from muscle fibers to brain tissue uses water . If you aren’t drinking enough water you will have difficulty focusing on the task at hand. You may even find your mood is in the pisser as well. In the air force we had a chart posted in the latrine so you could always look and see how you were doing on hydration. Though your urine can appear dark if you are taking a ton of vitamins and  smell funny if you are consuming too many BCAA’s that is not the norm.

Signs you are not drinking enough water

  • Dry, sticky mouthdrinking enough water
  • Thirst
  • Dry skin
  • Headache
  • Constipation
  • Dizziness
  • Lack of sweating
  • Urine has strong odor
  • Little or no urination — any urine that is produced will be dark yellow or amber
  • Sunken eyes
  • Hunger
  • In the serious cases, delirium, unconsciousness or death

drinking enough water I carry a large water container with me at all times. Usually its BPA safe like the  ones produced by BlueWave, but sometimes I will just grab a gallon to go from the store in the morning and sip on it all day.

General rule of thumb is to drink a gallon of water a day. When you start a cardio intense program like Insanity: The Asylum or just plain Insanity, remember they are HIIT, High Intensity Interval Training and you should increase your water intake accordingly.

Environment temperature does matter but, It doesn’t have to be 98degrees out for you to experience dehydration. You simply have to expel more water than you are taking in. That can happen when you are taking/drinking a diuretic like coffee or tea, it can happen from fat burner or just playing hard even on the ski slops.  Good luck with your fitness, stay safe and make sure you’re drinking enough water.
